POLICE are hunting a man who followed a young woman in Borehamwood and sexually assaulted her.

The victim was walking along Shenley Road at around 11pm on Friday, August 26.

She was followed into Hillside Avenue when a man approached her and tried to grab her hand.

Police say the man touched her inappropriately before she pulled away and ran away down an alleyway.

Today, police have appealed for information from the public to help catch the offender.

The victim described the man as being around 5ft 9ins tall, aged in his 20’s, of skinny build, with short black curly hair and with an Indian-sounding accent.

He was wearing a white coloured waterproof jacket with a black pattern on it, blue jeans and white trainers.

DC Paul Spencer, investigating from Hertsmere Local Crime Unit, said: “We take incidents of this kind very seriously and are doing all we can to trace the man responsible.

“We have had no other linked incidents to this.”

He added: “I am appealing for anyone who was in either the town centre around the time of the incident or along the high street and Hillside Avenue and may have seen something to come forward.

“There may be people who were in town and saw a man acting suspiciously, following a woman, saw the incident itself take place or a man running away afterwards.

“If that is you, I would encourage you to get in touch so we can arrest the man responsible for this crime.”

Anyone with information should ring DC Spencer via the non-emergency number 101, citing crime reference number J1/11/3501. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
