FANS of the hugely popular Harry Potter films will be 'blown away' by the last movie in the series, assures a Borehamwood actor.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has its world premiere in Leceister Square tonight, and among the stars, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, will be Jon Key, of Shenley Road.

The 52-year-old actor plays goblin bank clerk, Bogrod, and promises an exciting finale that is sure to “go off with great excitement”.

The three-foot-11-inches-tall performer, who has starred in famous films such as Labyrinth and Willow, said it was a privilege to have been involved in Harry Potter.

Reflecting on his time spent filming at Leavesden Studios, in Watford, in late 2009 and early 2010, he said: “It was a great atmosphere because it's like a family - so many of the crew have worked together for the last ten years, everyone knows each other and they all get on very well. It's a well oiled machine.

“When you go out there to work, they look after you very well and it was a privilege to be involved in something so huge. When you're in the middle of it, it seems like any other filming or acting job, you get on with it - its only afterwards you realise oh my god that was Harry Potter.”

The actor, whose day job is working as a supervisor in the credit control department for a property security firm, said he was very pleased with how his cameo sequence turned out.

Mr Key described the make up process – which took around three hours – as “extraordinary”. He described his character, an employee at Gringotts Wizarding Bank, as looking distinguished, but very old and wrinkled.

Mr Key, who recently finished working on Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's new programme 'Life's too Short', said: “The work that goes into the makeup is absolutely amazing and it all moves so beautifully, its like a second skin.

“It appears seamless and looks so real – it's quite extraordinary. You forget you've got it on and its great for creating a character because you see it come to life in front of the mirror - by the time you finish you can't recognise yourself.”

Asked why he thought the Harry Potter series was so popular, Mr Key, who has work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, said: “I think children believe they could be Harry Potter and take on the world.

“I think kids identify with him, but also a whole generation have grown up with Daniel, Emma and Rupert so its broadened its appeal. It's like Tolkein, which has a large adult fanbase, people like continuing stories.”

Asked how he thinks fans will react to the final film, Mr Key said: “I took a friend, who hadn't been to the cinema for years, and he said 'Oh my god' – he was totally blown away and I think fans will be too. It is a really exciting finale and a real action movie.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 goes on general release on Friday July 15. Bogrod actor Jon Key will be the guest of honour at a special Borehamwood premiere at the Reel Cinema, in Shenley Road, to raise money for the local NSPCC group.

Tickets for the 6pm performance cost £7.50 per adult and £5 for children and refreshments will be supplied by Tesco, who are sponsoring the event.

Every penny from the ticket sales will go toward the work of the NSPCC.
