AN ELSTREE entrepreneur has secured a new deal with a major supermarket website through the help of Dragon’s Den businesswoman Deborah Meaden.

Carol Savage, 44, received £100,000 for her social networking recipe sharing website www.mydish.co.uk from the dragon in August last year.

Last night she appeared on Dragon's Den: What Happened Next and the show ended with her signing a new deal with Tesco.

This is the first time a supermarket has backed a Dragon’s Den social media site, dubbed by Mrs Savage as “facebook for foodies”.

The site will allow Tesco customers, for the first time, to see ingredients for their favourite recipes as well as upload and share recipes, tips and cooking secrets with other users.

Mrs Savage originally created the site after her mother-in-law passed away and she discovered several scraps of paper with old recipes on them.

Her husband remembered the recipes from when he was a child and after Mrs Savage realised how personal family recipes can get lost if they are not stored properly, she created the website.

Mrs Savage became the first entrepreneur on Dragon’s Den to have been offered double the amount of money she was pitching for.

She received two offers of £100,000 and turning down dragon Theo Paphitis, she agreed a £100,000 deal with retail guru Deborah Meaden.

She said: “After years of hard work this is a major achievement. I’m thrilled to be working with Tesco and couldn’t have done this without the help of Deborah and Dragon’s Den.

“It has all come true for me. What I want now is to get people from Borehamwood and the surrounding areas to create a dish unique to the area.

“Every part of the country has one and it would be interesting to see what can come out of this part of Hertfordshire.”

Mrs Meaden said: “Peter Jones thought Carol was crazy to have spent so much on her business before entering the den. However, my confidence in her ability to make it work has paid off as can be recognised by our new partnership with Tesco.

“I decided to invest in MyDish because I saw a winning combination of a great concept and a genuinely passionate individual with a strong relevant track record.

"I’m pleased to say that Carol has been proving me right ever since. Her determination to succeed is incredible.”
