Borehamwood pupil raises money for Haiti earthquake victims

A BOREHAMWOOD pupil raised almost £300 for charity through the sale of tie dye T-shirts.

Sadie-Mae Arellano, 12, who is a pupil at Yavneh College and a member of the Elstree & Borehamwood Masorti Community, decided to raise money for World Jewish Relief’s Haiti Earthquake Emergency Appeal, as part of her bat mitzvah project.

She made 100 tie dye T-shirts to sell this summer and all money will be donated to help those affected by the earthquake.

Sadie-Mae was offered a stand to sell the t-shirts at Clore Shalom Primary School, in Hugo Gryn Way, Shenley, at the school’s summer fair.

She said: “For my bat mitzvah I wanted to adopt a charity to raise funds for. I thought it would be an important step in becoming a Jewish adult and taking responsibility to help others.

“I saw the shocking pictures of how the people of Haiti were suffering. I wanted to help and chose WJR’s Haiti Earthquake Appeal. With the help of my family and friends we made over 100 tie-dye T-shirts and sold them at Clore Shalom’s school fair.

“We raised nearly £300 and had a lot of fun doing it. I hope in some small that this will make a difference to the people of Haiti.”
