Community shop thanks company for redecorating donation

A ONE-STOP shop that provides free advice services in Borehamwood has thanked a jewellery company for funding a redecorating project.

The Community Shop, in Leeming Road, Borehamwood, has been redecorated by Community Action Hertsmere staff and two teams of staff from jewellery company Signet.

The Community Shop, in Leeming Road, acts as a drop-in service offering support on money, health, housing and employment issues.

It is a hub for charities, colleges and public services, and provides free internet access.

The shop also holds regular IT courses, stop smoking workshops, bereavement counselling and employment advice sessions.

Community Shop manager Isobel Hatfield said: “Not only did Signet donate funds of £250 for materials, but they also provided two teams of volunteers from their finance department, who came along on two separate days to do the decorating.

“It was very gratifying to see collaborative working between the business world and the voluntary sector. We worked really well together and it was a very enjoyable experience.

“It has had a tremendous effect on the morale of the staff and learners working there, not to mention the public. There have been many comments on how much more spacious and pleasant the Community Shop looks and feels since being decorated.”

Hertsmere Deputy Mayor Peter Knell attended the shop's open day last Thursday, with Cowley Hill Councillor Ann Harrison, representatives from Hertsmere Community Transport and groups that use the shop including Oaklands College, Worknet and the Citizens Advice Bureau.
