As campaigning for yesterday's local council elections warmed up, Hertfordshire's youth voters prepared for an election of their own.
Not wishing to be outdone, youngsters went go to the polls to vote for representatives to send to the UK Youth Parliament.
Voting booths were set up in schools, colleges and youth centres and the polls close on Monday. Ten candidates are contesting Hertfordshire's six youth parliament seats and the results will be announced after the count at County Hall on Saturday, May 13.
Aimed at 11 to 18 year-olds, the UK Youth Parliament is made up of 350 young people from across the country who are consulted on issues ranging from drugs and crime to education and the environment.
Robert Gordon, county council member for education, said: "As several former Hertfordshire MYPs have already shown, it can pave the way to a career in politics."
