A YOUTH football team are now sporting a new football kit after receiving funding from a crime reduction group.

The Borehamwood Crime Reduction Group (CRG), chaired by Councillor Pat Strack, along with chairman of Neighbourhood Watch, Angela Saunders, agreed to provide a total of £500 for Borehamwood Youth Football Club players who had outgrown their previous kit.

Mrs Saunders said: “Playing football is a wonderful way to keep our youngsters engaged and enthused and we were all proud to be able to help them in this instance.

“These young players need our support and it is very pleasant on a fine Sunday morning to stand and watch them play.

“On the morning Councillor Pat Strack and I visited it was bucketing down with rain and yet they still played. That is what I call commitment.”

The CRG have funds of £1,000 every year to grant to groups within the town who are actively promoting youth work or for schemes that reduce crime.

Apart from the football club, grants have been made to 1st Elstree Scouts for a dining shelter and to PCSO Chris Messetter for lanyards to attach to purses for senior citizens.

There is £350 left in this year's pot and another £1,000 will be available after April. To apply for the money contact Val Kane, CDRP, Hertsmere Borough Council, Civic Offices, Elstree Way, Borehamwood, WD6 1WA.
