A TALENTED trio will win a year's scholarship to a Potters Bar stage school.

Youngsters who think they have star quality are invited to a free workshop at The Wyllyotts Theatre, Darkes Lane Potters Bar on Sunday January 17.

The workshop is open to children aged six to 16 who either live, or go to school, in Hertsmere.

Organisers promise the event will not be run like a scary audition.

Instead of performing on their own youngsters will be asked to get involved in activities with children their own age.

The three judged the best will get weekly three hour sessions at Top Hat Stage School in Potters Bar.

One of last year’s winners, James Hodge from Potters Bar, went on to secure a role in the West End’s stage play of Oliver.

The offer is part of a health drive by Hertsmere Council.

Councillor Jean Heywood, portfolio holder for environment, said: "Research has shown that taking part in such leisure activities can have an immense positive influence on an individual.

“We are offering three young people who may not otherwise be fortunate enough to take part in such activities the chance to win a scholarship."

The annual scholarships are for a weekly three hour session at Elm Court, Potters Bar every Friday 4.30pm - 7.30pm (term time only) although Top Hat also runs other schools on Saturdays and Sundays if Fridays are not convenient.

Numbers are limited.

Interested parties are advised to contact Liz Paffley on 0208 207 2277 or email liz.paffley@hertsmere.gov.uk for a booking form and conditions of the auditions.
