A GALA evening of entertainment is being held tonight to celebrate the opening of a community theatre in Borehamwood.
The Ark Theatre officially opens its doors tonight for a series of performances by local school pupils, community groups, and amateur dramatists.
Guests of honour at the opening ceremony include Councillor Morris Bright, leader of Hertsmere Borough Council, Derek Martin, who plays Charlie Slater in BBC's Eastenders, and Richard Pryke, sound engineer on Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire.
The theatre, in Thrift Farm Lane, is the product of £1.9m investment from the council and Hertswood School, whose land it has been built on and who will manage the building.
Ahead of the opening, which will include a champagne reception, Cllr Bright said: “This has been such an exciting project, I'm very much looking forward to the official opening gala and seeing the local community up on stage.”
The evening starts at 7pm, and will includes performances of extracts shows like Oliver!, Guys and Dolls, and High School Musical.
