Borehamwood rapper to perform with US musician Flo Rida

BOREHAMWOOD rapper Phil Smith is to support one of America's biggest names in rap music, Flo Rida, on Sunday night.

Better known by his stage name Alias, the 25-year-old rap artist who has lived in Station Road, Borehamwood, for the past year, says Sunday's show will be the biggest gig of his career so far.

The concert will take place at London’s Indigo2 centre in Greenwich, with representatives from major record labels including Universal and Ripe Records due to attend the performance. This could possibly lead to a big break for the up-and-coming rapper, who is aiming to sign with one of the big names in the music industry.

"I've been working on my music since I was 16, seriously in the last five years. It would be great to get signed and start putting some music out there" he said.

Alias will be performing a 30-minute set with hip-hop group Lakeside, who he has been touring with since Christmas. The rapper has steadily been turning heads in the R'n'B music scene, supporting rap and hip-hop artists across the UK including DJ Ironik, JLS and N-Dubz.

Beginning his music career as an MC in his teens, Alias started performing for pirate radio and internet stations as well as music festivals such as the Notting Hill Carnival.

“A few of my friends got into it, so I did to. I just took it one step further” he said.

For now Alias is concentrating on Sunday night’s performance, hoping he can gain as much from the American artist as he can. “Working alongside the likes of Flo Rida is a really good experience and helps me get one step closer to where I want to be.”

Alias will be performing on Sunday at Indigo2. Tickets cost £19.50 from Ticketmaster.
