MORE than 1,300 people attended open days held at Borehamwood’s police and fire stations last Saturday.
The cells at the police station, in Elstree Way, were open for people to take a look around and the children were entertained by games and face-painting.
The day raised £591 for Help for Heroes, a charity formed to help those wounded in Britain’s current conflicts.
PC Ruth Cash, who organised the event, said: “We hope residents enjoyed it and we hope to get some new recruits. It would not have been possible without the valuable contribution of many shops who donated prizes for the raffle and many of my colleagues who helped out with the preparations on the day.”
Borehamwood fire station also held an open day on Saturday, which allowed visitors to meet the crew and get essential fire safety advice.
There was a demonstration of a chip pan fire and an opportunity for people to take a closer look at specialist equipment, including an aerial ladder platform and rescue support unit.
There was a bouncy castle, mini-train ride and a beat-the-goalie competition.
