Classic car ladies strip for charity

TWELVE brave women from Watford and District Classic Vehicle Club have followed in the footsteps of the WI Calendar Girls by posing for a sexy charity calendar.

Cars and glamorous women have always been a popular combination so the club hopes to raise hundreds of pounds for Watford's Peace Hospice with the Watford Classic Ladies calendar, which features female members and their beloved motors.

Club president Cedric Levitt and committee member Ruth Goldstein came up with the idea after seeing the hit British film Calendar Girls, which charts the true story of a Women's Institute nude calendar.

Ms Goldstein said: "When we came out of the cinema I looked at him and he looked at me and we'd both had the same idea.

"That was on the Sunday. By the Monday we'd got nearly all the girls. We didn't know what reaction we were going to get but they were very enthusiastic."

Sixty-something Ms Goldstein appears in the calendar as Miss April posing on her Triumph Stag 2000, shielded only by a red umbrella and hat.

She said: "If you want to know what's underneath you'll have to work it out yourself."

The shots were taken by professional photographer Paul Bussey at one of the club member's home in Bushey.

Ms Goldstein said: "We are all 30-something upwards but we do have something to offer. Just because we're getting older doesn't mean we're wrinkly and unattractive."
