Aladdin and his magic lamp made a special appearance at a Borehamwood care home this week, helping to raise £1,000 for charity.

Staff at the Forest Care Village, in Cardinal Avenue, donned costumes and brushed up on their scripts to entertain residents at the home over the festive period.

Nurses, carers and managers have raised £1,000 from the pantomime and raffles, for Barnet Young Carers and Siblings (BYCAS), a charity which supports children who help care for a family member.

Jas Chauhan, office manager at the home, said: “It was really fantastic. All the management took part in the five performances of the pantomime. Because most of the residents are away from their family over Christmas, the shows have helped create a family atmosphere with everyone sitting together and laughing together.

“Some of the residents told us it gave them the feel that they weren’t in a nursing home and they all really enjoyed it.”

As well as the Christmas shows, the village held a fancy dress Christmas party with a guest appearance from Santa Claus, an Aladdin-themed Christmas ball, carol concert and karaoke.

The care village offers residential care facilities and has specialist neurological nursing and dementia care.
