Balloons filled the hall at a surprise party for the chairman of a pensioners group on Tuesday, in recognition of her years of hard work.
Florrie Ward, of Oddesey Road, has been chair of the Aberford Tuesday Club for nine years.
She has lived in Borehamwood all her life and celebrated her 80th birthday this week. The club, previously known as the Pensioners Voice Group, meets every week at Aberford Hall and has around 45 members.
Mrs Ward said: “We were playing bingo and all of a sudden everyone appeared and there was a huge cake waiting in the next room.”
As chairman, Mrs Ward organises events and trips, which are free to members.
Seventy-year-old Magda Ker-ton, a member of the club for seven years, said: “Florrie is a marvellous person and does a really great job. She’ll do anything for anybody.”
Mrs Ward also enjoyed a trip to The Ritz as part of her birthday celebrations.
