A motorbike track in Radlett will not be given the green light until more details have been supplied, councillors said this week.

At a meeting of Aldenham Parish Council on Tuesday, councillors said they were not yet ready to lease part of the King George V playing fields, in Cobden Hill, for a supervised motorcycle track.

Councillor Ron Worthy, chairman of Aldenham Parish Council, said: “We will continue to look at this matter until all our questions have been answered. No decision will be made on whether we lease the land until this is done.

“We want to know more about access, usage and the times it will be used, so we can judge whether there will be any annoyance for residents and the cricket club.”

For the past two years, a partnership between various agencies, including Hertsmere Com-munity Partnership and Hert-fordshire Constabulary, has been working to get the track up and running with the aim of teaching young people how to ride safely and maintain their bikes.

Police Constable Andy Chittenden, who was with Hert-fordshire Constabulary when the idea was first mooted, said: “This motorcycle and BMX/Mountain bike track project is so important to the young people of Hertsmere.

“It will give them something that will be the envy of the rest of Hertfordshire.

PC Chittenden is now with the Metropolitan Police, but has carried on with responsibility for the project. He added: “We have enough money to make a track of a very high standard and I hope with the Olympics coming, our BMX track could encourage our budding cyclists to be winners.“ PC Chittenden said the track, proposed for the area known as the picnic field, would be a safe and supervised arena.

Anyone breaking the rules of the club would lose their membership and all bikes provided would be tested for noise and comply with the noise limits set.
