Three air cadets from a Borehamwood-based air training school spent an action-packed week at a military base in Scotland last week.

Kate Hollis, Miland Patel and Jonathan Tilley, all 16, from 1372 Elstree & Borehamwood Squadron Air Training Corps, based in Rossington Avenue, Borehamwood, joined a group of 30 cadets from across the Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire at Royal Air Force Lossiemouth in Moray, Scotland.

At the RAF base the cadets were involved in weapons training, navigation and leadership exercises, sports and drills as well as summer camp activities.

The trip also included a visit to the base of the 617 Squadron, who were best known as the Dambusters for their role in the Second World War.

Cadets interested in a career in the RAF also carried out work experience with the RAF police.

Camp commandant flight lieutenant Elaine Porter said: “The week at Lossie could hardly have been better. As well as the core camp programme activities, we were able to secure many additional visits and activities which were hugely enjoyable and insightful.

“These camps on RAF stations are an experience unique to members of the Air Training Corps. I’m sure many young people haven’t yet looked into joining us and have no idea what they are missing.”

The Air Training Corps is currently recruiting new cadets aged 13-17 (male and female). For more information call 0208 207 1046 or visit www.aircadets.org
