A DISPLAY of spring bulbs has been planted in Borehamwood to honour links with foreign towns.

Members of the Borehamwood and Elstree Town Twinning Association were joined by volunteers from the Rotary Club to plant the flowers in Aberford Park last Sunday.

The 400 bulbs, donated by the Rotary Club, are located in front of a bench and plaque dedicated to 25 years of twin town links between Elstree and Borehamwood and Fontenay aux Roses in France and Offenburg in Germany.

It follows the planting of two trees a year ago by the Parks Department, with each tree dedicated to a twin town.

Paul Clark, deputy chairman of the Rotary Club's community services committee, said the bulb planting had proved so popular in the past that it had become a regular event.

"In the past few years we have planted bulbs at a church, a roundabout and at Allum Lane Community Centre, so it was nice to plant them in the park this year."

After planting the flowers members of the twinning committee visited the war memorial in Shenley Road to lay a wreath from Fontenay aux Roses in honour of those who have died for their country.

Unfortunately, due to industrial action in France, the wreath had arrived after the armistice ceremony.

Anthony Scott-Norman, secretary of the Twinning Association, said: "Although the French wreath arrived after the main ceremony on November 11, we held a committee meeting and all agreed that we should still lay it with the others at the war memorial."
