A former pub is to be converted into temporary housing and a dance studio.
At a planning meeting last night, Hertsmere borough councillors unanimously approved two separate proposals to redevelop The Cannon Public House in Thirsk Road, Borehamwood.
The existing residential unit which was used for staff will become a stand-alone three-bedroom residential unit for the purposes of temporary accommodation. Three parking spaces will be provided.
Thirteen neighbours were notified of the application but no comments were received.
The development, on council-owned land must begin within three years and can only be used for the purposes of helping with urgent local housing need, with no more than 6 people living there.
Meanwhile, the ground floor is to be converted into a dance studio.
Concerns were raised from neighbours about loss of privacy to those using the changing rooms, lack of parking, use of the building during communal hire, and security and heating issues.
Despite, these concerns, councillors pushed the application through. There will be 15 car parking spaces provided.
The dance studio will be in sue between 10am-9pm from Sunday to Thursday and from 9am-5pm on Fridays and Saturday’s.
The proposal was deemed acceptable to the planning officer as it posed no “adverse impact on the character and appearance of the surrounding area nor on the living conditions of the occupiers of the neighbouring properties”.
Once again, the development must begin within three years.
