A driver says it is a “nightmare” to travel along a busy road due to illegally parked vehicles.

Sue Churchill, 59, along her with her husband Mick, say they struggle to get down Stirling Way due to the number of vehicles parked or stopped on double yellow lines.

Last year, double yellow lines were painted along the road to the delight of Mrs Churchill who believed it would “stop the world and his wife” parking everywhere.

But the lady, who lives in Dales Way in Borehamwood, just behind the industrial park, says she couldn’t have been more “wrong”.

She said: “There are just so many unloading vehicles and cars parked everywhere. It is a nightmare. I use this road often; to get to Stirling Corner and Morrisons.

“But you end up getting stuck in a queue for ages because of the congestion. I was so pleased when the yellow lines were painted but I’ve never seen an enforcement officer around.”

The road has a number of industrial units, as well as designated parking spaces and private car parks. It also acts as a route to Morrisons and the Stirling Corner roundabout from those living in the Ripon Way area.

Mrs Churchill says she wants action that will deter people from parking on the double yellow lines, such as CCTV or traffic wardens, to stop the “gridlock”.

Hertsmere Borough Council says it will take action against drivers who are parking illegally.

A council spokesman said: “Our civil enforcement officers patrol this area as frequently as possible and will take enforcement action against any motorists parking on double yellow lines. Drivers who leave their vehicles there risk receiving a penalty notice.”
