Residents are being asked to use water only if they have to following two burst water mains.

Affinity Water says people should not use electrical items such as washing machines and dishwashers while they try and restore a full water supply.

And there is also a warning to preserve some water in case the entire supply has to be switched off for repair.

Neighbours in Shenley and Borehamwood have complained of very low water pressure and even no water at all this morning.

A team were already fixing a burst water main in Theobald Street but it has emerged today that there is a possible leak in Cowley Hill but it has not been located just yet.

A statement on Affinity Water's website says: "If you are in the above area and are experiencing problems with your water supply we suspect there is a burst water main in Cowley Hill which may be affecting you.

"Our technician is on site trying to locate the leak, once this has been located a repair team will be called to make the repair.

"During this time we ask you not to use any electrical appliances that require a water supply, for example washing machines or dishwashers and to conserve water from storage tanks during the time your water supply is interrupted.

"If you do still have a supply, we would advise you to store some water for drinking, in case your water has to be switched off for a repair to be completed.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience caused."

The White Horse and Novita in Shenley have confirmed on Facebook they will be closed today as a result of the water issues.
