An MP says he is “incredibly disappointed” to learn that plans to extend the Oyster card network are not to go ahead this year.

Oliver Dowden, who represents Hertsmere, has been campaigning for the Oyster card to be extended to Radlett as well as Potters Bar.

But following a meeting with the rail minister, Mr Dowden has found out that the Department for Transport (DfT) do not expect to deliver the extension this year.

Mr Dowden said: “It was incredibly disappointing to hear from the rail minister that the Department for Transport no longer expect Oyster to be delivered to Potters Bar and Radlett this year.

"In my regular meetings with transport ministers over the past two years, I have received repeated assurances that the extension was on track.

“I will closely scrutinise the contents of the department’s Oyster review later this year and will lobby hard for the commitment to Radlett and Potters Bar to be honoured. As ever, throughout this, I will keep you updated on the outcome.”

An Oyster scheme was initially meant to be in place in Radlett by September 2015 and Mr Dowden has since been involved in conversations with DfT, Transport for London, and Thameslink.
