Sardari: Stories of Courage

Sardar means leader. This event focuses on stories of Sikh leadership within a British and Sikh cultural context. 'My Grandad and I' is a play about a Sikh boy and the challenges he faced in childhood, and the challenges of his grandfather. The film 'Saragarhi: The True Story' focuses on the valour of Sikh Soldiers in the British army. With a range of activities across the evening including object displays and workshops, there will be something for all the family to take part in. Accompanying this event will be a remarkable collection of arms and armour from the empire of the Sikhs spanning the 18th and early 19th century as well as unique examples from India. These objects epitomise the valour and courage of the Sikh warriors of old and illustrate first-hand the Sikh martial traditions.

Sleeping Beauty

Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score, stunning choreography and beautiful costumes all combine to portray the struggle between good and evil. The wicked Carbosse casts a spell on Princess Aurora proclaiming that she will one day prick her finger and die. The Lilac Fairy changes the spell, and instead on the fateful day the Princess and the entire Palace fall into a deep sleep. Following the traditional tale of Sleeping Beauty, this ballet is sure to enchant audiences of all ages.

Lee Hurst: Mucking About

Lee Hurst, star of BBC1’s They Think Its All Over, is back on the road with his brand new show, Mucking About. In his new show Lee will be exploring the relationship between… No he won’t, he’ll be leaving that old twaddle to comedians at the Edinburgh Festival. There’s no journey or message. If you want to go on a journey, buy an airplane ticket. If you want a deep message, run your voicemail through a sub-bass woofer. If you want plenty of laughs this is for you. Lee will be turning up, lobbing gags and funny stuff at you from all angles.

Enchanted Museum

See the Enchanted Museum come to life as legendary creatures (including the beautiful winged Pegasus) appear at an exciting twilight event at Chiltern Open Air Museum. The Museum’s historic buildings will be lit up by candle, lantern and firelight for you to explore. This year’s theme is magical realms and you can take part in a number of activities and crafts inspired by traditional magical stories and fairy tales. You are invited to toast marshmallows by the campfire and participate in Combat School and children can take part in the Lost Boys versus Pirates battle. All visitors, big and small, are invited to attend in costume and can enter the fancy dress competition. There will be a special enchanting walk through the woodlands, storytelling, face painting and magical map creating. Visitors can spot Beatrix Potter characters in the allotment, see fictional small borrowing people in the Toll House and help Peter Pan find his shadow. There will be a BBQ and refreshments available to purchase on the Village Green, including Pimms and locally produced Chilterns beer.

Big Screen Time Revival

After its resounding success last year, the second Big Screen Time Revival film convention is to be held this weekend. A mixture of film subjects will be shown throughout the day in two cinemas.
