A group of scouts held a cooking competition, which included creating a three course meal.

Groups from across the Elstree District took part and had to make do with only a gas burner to cook their creation.

Four of the five district scout troops, aged between 10 and 14, entered and the competition was won by the 7th Borehamwood Scout group.

The winners were presented with a wooden spoon and will represent Elstree district in the county cooking competition.

Meals produced by the scouts included stuffed mushrooms with poached eggs, fish cakes, ticolore salad, shepherd’s pie, and pancakes and chocolate mousse.

Elstree District commissioner Helen Hawthorne said: “Great teamwork was displayed by all of the scouts involved and all of the judges agreed that the standard of the food was very high and offered to come again next year.

“The competition highlighted the ‘skills for life’ approach of scouting and I think the parents of all those who took part can be confident that their young people will be able to feed themselves well in later life.”
