Roadworks which have been causing rush hour chaos for much of January is expected to be completed early next week.

Drivers and residents have grown "fed up" after finding themselves in long queues due to gas repairs just outside Shenley, at the bottom of Black Lion Hill.

Traffic has stretched back to London Colney nearly every weekday but delays should ease early next week.

A spokesman for Cadent, who are carrying out the repairs, said they are hopeful works will be completed by "Monday or Tuesday next week".

Cadent say they have raised an "urgent request for the road to be reinstated as soon as possible".

"This is an complex ongoing repair operation. We have found several gas escapes and have been working to repair them.

"Some of the work is required to be carried out by special contractors and this has led to the working taking longer than initially hoped.

"We have arranged for the specialist contractors to come to the site on Sunday to complete the last repair.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience people may have experienced as a result of this essential repair work."
