Viewers of Celebrity Big Brother may have spotted a couple of familiar faces after the Mayor and Mayoress were invited on to the show 'Bit on the Side'.

Elstree and Borehamwood Mayor, Eric Silver, and his wife Evelyn, provided a "safe pair of hands" as presenters Rylan Clark and Emma Willis made their winners predictions, after series 14 of the reality TV show kicked off last week.

The short clipped was broadcast on Channel 5 on Friday night.

Former X-Factor contestant Clark said that the predictions would be made in the presence of the "highest order" adding that Mr Silver and his wife were the "closest luminaries and the top bananas of dignitaries" that they could call upon.

The presenters then placed their predictions inside a ballot box, which was put into the trusting arms of the Mayor.

In return, the Elstree and Borehamwood Mayor and first to appear on the show, awarded the Big Brother presenters a town plaque, which was met with delight by the duo.

Speaking on the show, the Mayor said: "Elstree and Borehamwood are very proud to be the home of this historic studio, especially including the iconic Big Brother house."

After Mr Silver added: "It was a great privilege for my wife the Mayoress, Evelyn, and I to appear on the television show, “Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit on the Side” on Friday evening.

"We were treated very warmly by the hosts Emma Willis and Rylan Clark and it was also great to receive a standing ovation from Eamonn Holmes on the set who had recently been awarded an OBE for services to broadcasting. This particular series has captured the imagination of the viewing public and it is terrific that a series so popular is filmed here in our town at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood."
