Candidates for a by-election triggered after a councillor lost his appeal against a sexual assault conviction have been announced.

Those standing for election to Hertsmere Borough Council's Cowley Hill ward include Rebecca Butler, who is representing the Labour Party, Sean Kieron-Moore from the Conservative Party, Liberal Democrat Paul Robinson, Nicholas Winston from the Green Party, and UKIP candidate David Hoy.

Only residents within the Cowley Hill ward are eligible to vote and have until December 14 to ensure they are registered to vote.

Voters need to return and complete their form to Hertsmere Borough Council by post by December 15.

The position became available after the previous councillor David Burcombe lost his position as an independent councillor after losing an appeal against a charge of sexual assault.

The by-election will be held on January 4.
