A TOPPING out parade to mark a new housing development was held.

Watford Community Housing gathered at at a new building site in Hemming Way, which will include 32 affordable homes, as part of the occasion.

Planning permission was granted in January 2016 and the building, which will also feature 29 homes for affordable rent and three for social rent, will be finished by 2018.

The area will also be improved, after a consultation showed people needed more parking spaces.

The entrance to Leavesden Green Park will also be redesigned with an "improved look".

AStephen Johnson, Councillor for Tudor Ward who is responsible for housing and property on the council, laid a ceremonial brick to mark the occasion.

Hee said: "I'm really impressed by the development at Hemming Way. These much-needed affordable homes will go a long way for people in the community, and will help to give a new look and feel to the area.

“Watford Community Housing act as important local partners to Watford Borough Council, and they do great work in helping us to meet the housing need in the wider Watford area. This new development is no exception, and I can't wait for it to be finished so people can move into their new, modern homes."
