A trip to forge foreign relations and bring Borehamwood onto the international stage was celebrated in Germany.

Members of the Borehamwood and Elstree Twin Town Association (BETTA) travelled to Offenburg in South West Germany last month to celebrate the region’s annual wine festival and county show.

This is the third year the association has visited the gateway city to the Black Forest to take part in the annual festivities, and guests were able to enjoy the music and entertainment on offer, as well as the local cuisine.

Marijke Turner said: “We had a beautiful time, thanks to the BETTA team. The hotel and town was very comfortable and welcoming, the food and wine on offer was marvelous.

“In particular, I would like to thank the BETTA Committee and Klaus Teufel (Head of Die Brucke, the German partnership organization) both of whom were very helpful at looking after the group in Offenburg.”

Since forming in 1982 the Association has promoted links with Offenburg and Fontenay Aux Roses, near Paris. Members visit both towns most years, and guests from Germany and France are welcomed to Hertsmere in a share of cultural pursuits.

BETTA also run French Language sessions, at 96 Shenley Road, Borehamwood, on the last Tuesday of every month, from 2.30pm.
