A give and take day where residents can make off with a whole new set of furniture is coming to Barnet.

The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) is holding the Give and Take Day on October 15 at Lyonsdown Hall, New Barnet, so people can bring their second-hand furniture and bric-a-brac and exchange it for other people's.

The event is part of the Wise Up To Waste programme encouraging people to waste less and save money, which last year saw 14 tonnes of household items exchanges by residents.

Waltham Forest councillor Clyde Loakes, chairman of NLWA, said: "These events give north London residents an opportunity to have a clear-out, or pick up something useful – at absolutely not cost.

"They are also great because they extend the life of perfectly good furniture and household items which might otherwise have gone to disposal.

"People bring all kinds of things – sofas, teapots, pianos, sewing machines, and even a bath tub!"

The first hour of the event opens up for donations, while the second two hours are time to exchange, and large items can be collected from your door in advance by visiting the Wise Up To Waste website.

The event takes place from 2-5pm.
