A teenager was given back her independence in a specially designed wheelchair.
Maleeha Malik, 14, from New Southgate, suffers from global development delay and has no indepedent mobility, relying on her parents and younger siblings, sister Ifraand, and younger brothers Abdullah and Yousef, for her needs.
But through the fundraising efforts of charity CHIPS and their partnership with Beacon Bingo in Cricklewood, a specially designed and manufactured wheelchair has been created which allows Maleeha to move better for herself, as she is able to bear weight and do standing transfers.
Maleeha’s mother, Saba, said: "This wheelchair will allow Maleeha to become more independent at school and also encourage her to take part in more activities and trips both in school and within the community.
"We cannot thank Beacon Bingo Cricklewood and CHIPS enough."
Through the partnership with Beacon Bingo, its parent company Praesepe and CHIPS, £820,000 has been donated to provide more than 150 powered wheelchairs around the country.
The charity as a whole has raised £1.8million and provided more than 500 wheelchairs to children in the UK.
Beacon Bingo’s venue manager, Steve Lightfoot, said: "It’s so rewarding to see that our fundraising efforts are going to make such a huge difference to Maleeha and her family.
"She is such friendly girl, and we’re just so proud we could help out."
Co-founder of the CHIPS charity Linda Lindsay said: "It is so important for CHIPS that our donors see the results of their hard work and we try to ensure that all the recipients are local to where the funds have been raised."
Beacon Bingo operate seven bingo halls, with each taking part in the fundraising for CHIPS.
