Seven new sites are set to be developed for more social housing in a borough constituency.

Planning has been obtained for sites at Basing Way, Elmhurst Crescent, Norfolk Close and Adamson Court, Hertford Road, to be developed to make way for more social rent housing, while sites at Basing Way Green, Prospect Ring and Summers Lane are currently at the pre-planning stage.

MP for Finchley and Golders Green, Mike Freer, has welcomed the development, saying it is a chance to maximise opportunities with council-owned land.

He said: "Barnet continues to be one of the best London boroughs for delivering new housing, for outright purchase, shared ownership and for social rent.

"Seeing Barnet Homes and Barnet Council maximising the opportunities of the land they own is an example of good local partnerships in action."

Deputy Leader of Barnet Council Cllr Dan Thomas added that they are "well underway" with their plan to deliver 27,000 new homes across the borough, including 7,500 coming to Brent Cross and 10,000 to Colindale.

On the homes in Mr Freer's constituency, Cllr Thomas said: "We have also embarked on a programme of developing these sites, beginning with 320 affordable rented homes on a range of smaller sites, which Mike Freer is referring to.

"This will ensure new high quality and affordable homes are delivered to meet local housing need. We’re pleased this has the support of our local MP."

Works on these housing projects will begin at various times, with the first at Adamson Court set to start next month.
