A campaign to get residents making small actions to help their environment has been launched.

Barnet Council are calling on residents to report flytips and litter, to recycle and to make use of open spaces and parks has been launched.

As part of the Taking Care of Neighbourhoods campaign the council are putting a number of measures in place to help the environment and the area, including planting more trees, investing £400,000 in electric car charging points and their plan to invest in road improvements and pothole repairs.

More than 6,000 requests have been investigated by the council in the past 12 months from residents using the Report and Problem function on the website, with which they can also track the report's progress.

Cllr Dean Cohen, chairman of the environment committee, said: "We know keeping the borough clean and green is important to our residents and that’s why we’re stepping up our efforts.

"Fly-tipping and littering are simply unacceptable and when the council receives information of this occurring we investigate each incident reported.

"Recycling is equally important and the more we can separate waste from recycling the more we can save money and help the environment. I urge all residents to help recycle more."

The two phases of the campaign focus on different elements of keeping green: the first focuses on air quality and repairs while the second is aimed to tackle litter and improve open spaces.
