A temporary hut is to be erected at a shopping centre in celebration of a Jewish festival.

The Broadwalk Centre in Edgware is putting up a sukkah in its car park in celebration of the festival of Sukkot.

The Sukkah is a temporary hut which is used to spend time in during the festival, which allows the community to experience what it would be like to be exposed to the world and its natural elements, commemorating the years the Jews spent in the desert on their way to the Promised Land.

Centre manager Angela Brooks said: "We have hosted a Sukkah at the centre for our shoppers and local residents for a number of years now and pride ourselves on working closely with the Lubavitch of Edgware to provide a space in which our local community can celebrate the Sukkot Jewish holiday.

"I look forward to welcoming those who would like to come and use the installation."

The centre will also be holding other Jewish events in the upcoming months, with further details to be released.
