The challenge for a politician to highlight the difficulty face by disabled people has been postponed.

MP for Hertsmere Oliver Dowden was due to set travel up Shenley Road in a wheelchair this Friday at 2.30pm.

However, as some constituents would like to take place, but would not be able to as the date clashes with a Jewish holiday.

Rosh Hashana (Jewish new year) which takes place on Thursday and Friday this week is one of the holiest religious rituals, and work is forbidden on this holiday.

Oliver Dowden said: “I am very much looking forward to this challenge. It is very important to me as Hertsmere’s MP to understand the challenges that face all members of our community.

“I know from doing the blindfold challenge, experiencing life as a blind person on the Shenley Road, how difficult it is for people experiencing disabilities.

“Through this I hope to gain a greater understanding of the challenges facing wheelchair users and what I can do to try to help improve accessibility.’

The challenge will now take place a week later on Friday September 29 at 2.30pm starting outside of MacDonald’s in Shenley Road.
