Four volunteers have been honoured by the Mayor for their dedication to supporting a community asset.

Florrie Cowley, Mary Hanson, Ann Lawrence and Alan Lawrence were given the Community Award for their work at the Elstree and Borehamwood Museum.

They were presented with the award by Elstree and Borehamwood Town Mayor Cllr Eric Silver at the town council meeting on Wednesday, September 13.

Also at the meeting Councillor Sandra Parnell presented a book to the museum, on the history of the town football club.

The book is written by the Boreham Wood FC founder Bill O’Neill, who documents starting the club in 1948 after merging two previous clubs.

Cllr Parnell said: “It is a fascinating read and includes details about the very early years going back to the 1940s and before.

“The book shows the links between the football club and the film studios, the gargantuan task of making the club buildings and pitch and, perhaps best of all, amazing historical photographs of former players.

“This is a celebration of a local asset which we can all be so rightly proud of.”
