A BBC programme is looking for those in the building trade to help a police officer with his home.

BBC's DIY SOS is coming to East Barnet to help the family of PC Kris Aves after the terrorist attack in Westminster left him wheelchair-bound.

On March 22 PC Aves, 35, was returning from the Metropolitan Police's commendation ceremony, in which he was recognised for his work as a police liaison officer, when he was mowed down by the terrorist's speeding car.

He was left with two broken legs, head injuries, damage to his elbow, shoulder and sternum, and a damaged spinal cord which now means he must use a wheelchair.

He is currently living in Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury, while in rehabilitation for his injuries.

The team at DIY SOS are hoping to make his home accessible for him and suitable for his rehabilitation, as well as remaining a home for his partner Marissa and son and daughter, aged six and four.

DIY SOS invites trades, volunteer and companies to support this build for Police Officer Kris Aves and his family, which will take place on October 10 and 19.

To join the build you need to attend a Trades Day on September 21, so email diysosbarnet@bbc.co.uk as soon as possible with your trade details, availability and telephone contact details.
