The public are being warned by to be vigilant as a traveller settlement has been found in another park.

Around 20 caravans and 13 vehicles have moved onto Composers Park in Elstree.

They are thought to have gained access via the gate from The Fishery car park in Watford Road.

Julie Vincent, 59, of Sullivan Way was advised by a neighbour of the encampment.

She said: “There is rubbish everywhere. The park used to be dead land, but Hertsmere made a good job of redeveloping it.

“Now a lot of people use it, and I concerned for the safety of the children that use it and for the safety of our properties.

“We need to make sure we look after one another.”

Four weeks ago, Elstree Aerodrome was advised by police from Hertfordshire Constabulary that travellers were in the area for a wedding and would be gone in a week, but a week ago Julie’s neighbour was told the same thing.

Julie added: “There is still an issue. Where is the trust when we are told this instead of telling us that they are not sure how long they will be here.”

An email to Julie from Hertsmere Borough Council read: “Representatives from our Environmental Health team attended promptly on Saturday (9 September) and served notices of direction requiring the group to leave the site. At that time, there were 15 caravans and 13 vehicles on site.

“As the group are still on site, our legal team is now making the necessary arrangements to bring this matter to court.

“We appreciate the patience of local residents and we are doing everything we can, along with the police, to resolve this matter as quickly as we can."

Hertfordshire Constabulary have been contacted for comment.
