A petition has been launched to see the return of a well-loved pub which closed more than 20 years ago.

Paul Landry, of Agincourt Road, Golders Green, is keen to see the Prince Albert pub, which once stood on Golders Green Road, reopen after it was torn down in the early 1990s and the site has remained derelict since.

Barnet Council recently granted planning permission for a new housing development to come to the site, however this has not dissuaded Mr Landry from fighting for the pub to be reestablished.

He said: “The absurdity of it all is brain-bending.

“I just do not know anywhere else in North London where an empty plot of land has been allowed to fester for over 20 years.”

Mr Landry recalled visiting the pub in 1993 when it was a Harvesters restaurant, and said it had a “vibrant and thriving atmosphere”, and has since been in touch with the Wetherspoons chain to see if they would be willing to acquire the land.

The housing development was given planning permission in September 2016 to build a block of 60 flats with a spa and car and bicycle parking.
