Results across the borough so far show students have exceeded the national averages with their A levels.

Provisional results from 17 of the 20 Barnet school with a sixth form show 98.3 per cent of examinations were awarded an A* to E grade, compared to 97.9 per cent nationally, and 83.2 per cent achieve A*-C, compared to 77.4 per cent nationally.

One school included in these results is Copthall School in Pursley Road, Mill Hill, where 20 per cent of their grades were A* or A grades.

She said: "I found out this morning on the UCAS website, I got in to UCL but I’m planning on taking a gap year and then going to study veterinary science at Surrey, specialising in working with larger animals.

"I’m really happy, the results were much better than I was expecting, it was worth going through all the tough times."

The school could also boast 99 per cent overall pass rate, with 87 per cent of their students securing places at their first choice university.

Ami Patel, director of the sixth form, said: "We’ve once again enjoyed scenes of elation and happiness as our students have achieved excellent post 16 results.

"Their success is testament to their hard work and commitment, and we’re very proud of them all and very excited to hear about their futures."

Cllr Reuben Thompstone, chairman of the children, education, libraries and safeguarding committee, said: "It has been a tense wait over the summer for many students and I am delighted to see the excellent results from our schools."
