A pupil who had to take all of her GCSEs and A levels in three years has excelled in her results.

Vishwa Patel, 19, moved from India to Edmonton three years ago, and discovered her qualifications would not allow her to progress in the education system.

She had to take her GCSEs in one year at Barnet and Southgate College before progressing to A levels, for which she achieved an ABC and will now be attending university at Queen Mary to study biomedical sciences.

She said: "For me the most difficult thing was the language barrier. I can see a big difference in terms of my vocabulary now.

"The teachers helped me a lot to use those skills in the papers, include key words."

Vishwa collected her results with her mother, Yogini, and said her mother was more worried than she was about the result.

She continued: "She was more worried for me than I was. When I got in on the UCAS system we just cried together - tears of joy!"

Yogini said: "I am so proud of her, she has done so well."

Vishwa said she would like to go on to do a masters and become a scientist, or perhaps go into medicine in the future.

The college achieved an 100 per cent pass rate across 11 subjects, including biology and chemistry.
