A health MOT gazebo was constructed with help from an MP's annual summer school.

Mike Freer, MP for Finchley and Golders Green, gave a group of students the chance to experience life as an MP over three days spent in Westminster and the constituency visiting the Supreme Court, speaking with the deputy chief whip and meeting people from the area.

On July 20, as part of the school, students joined Mr Freer to offer people a free health MOT at the carpark in Waitrose, Ballards Lane.

Mr Freer said: "The health MOT is a quick and easy way for members of the public to get tailored advice on small changes they can make to their lifestyle that can have a big positive impact on their health – from quitting smoking to cutting back on sugary drinks.

"It was a big success this year, local people being seen at the rate of 20 per hour."

The health checks, run by Williams and Associates and funded by the borough, are part of Mr Freer's healthy lifestyle project.

Mr Freer added: "My hope is that they take the idea that MPs in Parliament can make the changes they want to see – but to do so, young people should stay informed, vote and even consider standing for office themselves."

Students were then invited to join Mr Freer for his "evening in Westminster" for a drink and tour of the Palace of Westminster along with people from the constituency.
