A bus route review from the Mayor of London will see more patients connected to their local hospitals.

Mayor Sadiq Khan has said one of his priorities is to introduce new bus links and re-route buses to serve patients, visitors and staff needing to get to and from hospitals in London.

These plans include bringing in new links to The Whittington Hospital, Highgate, and re-route and extend bus routes to serve the Royal Free, Hampstead and Barnet General Hospital.

However no mention was made to the introduction of bus services to serve Finchley Memorial Hospital.

Mike Freer, MP for Finchley and Golders Green, said: "Any prospect of a better route to Royal Free is welcome and I hope he engages with the community rather than the top down process he's followed to date.

"Sadly he doesn't appear to be looking at a bus to Finchley Memorial Hospital."

Andrew Dismore AM, London Assembly member for Barnet and Camden, echoed Mr Freer's concerns over the lack of a route for Finchley Memorial.

He said: "My only note of concern was that there was no mention of improving services to Finchley Memorial Hospital.

"I fear this is becoming an unvirtuous circle, whereby a lack of services based at the hospital means lower demand for a service, which in turn makes it harder to commission services at the hospital.

"I will be meeting TfL officers to make the case for this to be prioritised."

There will be more than 40 bus services prioritised which also include North Middlesex Hospital in Edmonton, with changes already having taken place on some of the services.

Mayor Khan said: "Our bus services are lifelines to the tens of thousands of patients, staff and visitors who use them every single day to get to London’s hospitals.

We’re committed to making these journeys as affordable, convenient and easy to make as possible, so that we can not only help existing passengers but also open up these services to help many more Londoners."
