A mother-of-four has received £7,000 in compensation after her dentist failed to treat tooth decay.

Bojana Jovanovic, 39, visited Dr Christopher Marston at the former Finchley Dental Practice in Ballards Lane, Finchley, in 2014.

Despite having an X-ray of her teeth in 2014 and both a root canal and crown fitting in 2015, her oral health continued to deteriorate until she was experiencing chronic infections, bleeding gums and abscesses due to the surgery being performed incorrectly.

Ms Jovanovic said: “The tooth that Dr Marston carried out the root canal treatment on was still very sore and tender months after he did the treatment.

“The throbbing pain in my tooth was so unbearable, I was exhausted from having sleepless nights, and I was losing my mind the pain was so bad.”

In 2016 Ms Jovanovic visited a new dentist for a second opinion, to be told that the root canal had been incorrectly performed and that she would need to be admitted to hospital.

On speaking to dental negligence lawyers The Dental Law Partnership, Ms Jovanovic was shown that tooth decay could clearly be seen in the X-rays in Bojana Jovanovic 2014, but this had not been spotted or treated.

She continued: “I am devastated and frustrated that I have had to suffer so much just because of Dr Marston’s failure to notice that the root canal treatment was unsuccessful.”

Ms Jovanovic also claimed the dentist’s “blasé” attitude was a reason why she was not properly treated earlier, as he seemed to say everything would be fine.

She also has to have her crown replaced regularly due to the deterioration of her teeth.

The case was settled out of court in April 2017, when the dentist paid £7,000 compensation but did not admit liability.

The Barnet Times attempted to contact Dr Marston but was unable to do so.
