A home has been closed up after its occupants engaged in "anti-social" behaviour.

The property in Mayhill Avenue, Barnet, has been closed for three months after the police and Barnet Homes petitioned for a closure order.

On June 26 the court heard that Claire Mulcahy, 36, and Edward Stobbs, 40 engaged in persistent drug use and anti-social behaviour at the home, and their use of the premises "resulted in nuisance to members of the public".

Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Foster Percil said: "The conduct of the residents has had a detrimental effect on the health and wellbeing of the neighbours to the point where some felt too afraid to continue living in the area.

"We will continue to work closely with the London Assembly and housing trust to make sure that residents can live in peace without fear of drug related activity causing them distress."

The pair were permitted to return to collect their two dogs from the house, after which the property will remain closed until September 26.

A spokesperson from Barnet Homes anti-social behaviour team said: "Barnet Homes aims to build strong vibrant communities and are determined to tackle forcefully this kind of activity.

"We hope that this action will lead to a more peaceful environment for local residents."
