Crime- and firefighters will be showing the public how to stay safe at an open day this weekend.

The Emergency Services Day will take place this Saturday between 1pm and 4pm at Borehamwood Fire Station, Elstree Way.

The fire brigade will be showing safety demonstrations and offering safety advice and free home safety checks.

Police from the Safe Neighbourhood Team will offer advice on crime-prevention techniques and anti-social behaviour problems.

Volunteer Police Cadets will also be on hand to explain their role in the community, and members of the Special Constabulary will encourage people to join.

Concerned citizens can sign up to the Online Watch Link (OWL) from the Neighbourhood Watch, which sends crime alerts and advice specific to the area.

Visitors can secure their possessions with free use of property marking and tool engraving services on hand.

Younger visitors can have their fingerprints taken, look around police vehicles and dress up in police uniform.

Hertsmere Chief Inspector Steve O’Keeffe said: “Events like this are a great way to work alongside our partners and meet members of the local community of all ages. We hope to see as many people as possible on Saturday.”
