A school previously closed by Ofsted has been given a “good” rating after a big turnaround.

Edgware Junior School closed in July 2014 after being placed into special measures, and was then amalgamated with an infant school to become Edgware Primary School.

The newly-created primary school received a “good” rating in all areas in its most recent inspection, with the regulatory body saying the school “prepares pupils well for life in modern Britain by teaching about topics such as kindness, freedom of speech and tolerance.”

The school is one of the largest in the borough with 672 children, speaking 38 languages.

Headteacher Alison Jacob said she was “thrilled” to have received the grade.

She said: “It is so important to show how this achievement has changed the school and how the community have now gained a local school with a great provision and one that provides a good education.

“We are a friendly and welcoming school that supports our families and pupils well.”

The school will also be making improvements to their building and are about to begin work on a brand new playground.
