Plans for new stores, restaurants, a state of the art cinema complex and new town square have been submitted to the council for the Brent Cross shopping centre redevelopment.

Hammerson and Standard Life Investments’ plans include 200 new stores, 60 restaurants, hotel accommodation and a new relocated bus station at the shopping centre, which is undergoing a £1.4bn redevelopment.

Permission for a wider regeneration plan for Brent Cross and Cricklewood, costing £4.5bn, was secured by the firm in 2010 and work could start by summer 2018.

This comes as chaos ensued at the shopping centre, after heightened security meant peopel were queuing outside the centre to gain entry.

A consultation of 383 people showed that 88% of those who commented on different aspects of the development plans were supportive of the proposals put forward by the development partners, which also included improvements to Sturgess Park and Brent Riverside Park.
