A new support group is forming to provide support for people with dementia.

The Town Dementia Support Group will be launching on Tuesday, May 23 and will run between 2.00pm – 4.00pm on the second and fourth Tuesday each month.

The sessions will run in Fairway Hall, Brook Close and will provide professional advice and information, as well as music, exercises and refreshments.

Plans to run a support group for dementia sufferers have been in the pipelines for just over a year, but are now coming to fruition.

The team of town councillors, Rotarians, a member of the Visually Impaired Club and a doctor will be working with Dementia Club UK run in Barnet.

The group, sponsored by Saracens Rugby Club, will be working with members who founded the group in Barnet to cater to the wants and needs of the group.

Councillor Pat Strack said: “We have tried to create a space in the community for people affected by dementia to come and meet other people affected.

“We hope that this is somewhere they can come to get help and support from others and have a fun time as well.

“This will be provided for free as it is important that people will be able to access this help.”
