A husband and wife team completed the London Marathon for charity on their 27th wedding anniversary.

Lauren and Jonathan Barr, 52 and 57, raised just shy of £10,000 for North London Hospice and Chai Cancer Care in this year’s London Marathon, which took place on their 27th wedding anniversary.

They have both run numerous marathons, with this being Jonathan’s first since diagnosed with testicular cancer in April 2014.

Mr Barr said: “Chai Cancer Care has given me support throughout my cancer journey and my late mum, Valerie, who died in 2015 from a re-occurrence of breast cancer in the midst of my chemotherapy, was a volunteer there for 12 years.

“North London Hospice took care of Mum in the latter stages of her illness and where she was allowed to pass away peacefully - the nursing staff and volunteers were truly remarkable and fantastically supportive during this intense and traumatic time.”

The pair have raised more than £56,000 for charity in six London Marathon and two New York Marathons.
