A Labour parliamentary candidate has announced she will not be standing in June.

Sarah Sackman, the former Labour candidate for Finchley and Golders Green, has announced she will not stand for election on June 8 for "personal reasons".

Ms Sackman, who stood for election in 2015, said she was "not walking away" and will continue to support the Save Barnet Libraries campaign, residents on the Granville Road estate in their fight against private developers and as chairperson of the Finchley Fabians.

She said: "I am committed to the values of the Labour Party and to this community, the place where I’m from and my family still live. I look forward to getting out there and supporting the chosen candidate."

Ms Sackman also described her advocacy for women's rights and fight against anti-semitism, before slating the Finchley MP for being "missing in action" during Brexit campaigning, backing a vision she believe the people of Finchley did not vote for.

She added: "At this election voters face a choice between May’s vision of economic insecurity and isolation and a Labour Party determined to act in the national interest, protecting our most important trading relationships, investing in public services and preserving Britain’s standing in the world.

"I know which future I will be fighting for."

Labour has not announced their candidates for any of the Barnet constituencies, but is expected to do so next week.
